I’m going on my D of E expedition tomorrow so I won’t be doing any posting. We are spending one night at a campsite in a tent and then walking until about 2PM on Sunday. I will be really tired.

On a previous post, I talked about the Treo 670 (a Treo 650 running Windows Mobile 5.0) and ta-da. Engadget has posted a great article with lots of pictures showing the features of the device. People are guessing that the ‘w’, on the end of ’700w’ is supposed to mean Windows Mobile 5.0. This could mean that it may feature a ‘p’ version for Palm OS ‘Cobalt’. But this is merely speculation. The specs are:
Windows Mobile 5.0, one megapixel camera, EV-DO, Bluetooth, 64MB of memory.
Unfortunately they couldn’t play with it for long enough so they didn’t have a chance to make a full review but the pictures are cool. Can’t wait for it to arrive, if it does in the UK…
I hope this is only a prototype because this thing is HUGE. It really is like a brick, if not bigger. If it is this big then I may not get it because of the sheer size, and I wonder how much power it will consume. There will be no electricity left for the rest of the house! I really hope to god that this is only a test version for the developers. There will be no room left under my desk for the 360 itself. Click on the picture above for a bigger view.

So you’re thinking of travelling from London to New York, and not by plane – just go by tunnel. It’s not as if this idea hasn’t been presented before, but this seems more thoughtout, with more information about how it will be powered, how it will work and what to do incase of accidents. It would be magnetically levitated and would use a vacuum to keep everything sealed. To me it still seems too far ahead. I wouldn’t want to travel in one of these, it seems to risky and dangerous. If you really want to check this out then do. It is presented nicely in a Flash movie.

Over at DownloadSquad, Jordan has found a quick and easy way of installing Firefox on an external drive, such as a USB Pen Drive, that will work on both Mac OS X and Windows. I have waited so long for this, and it is here!
There’s some simple file editing involved, but once you get over that minor hump you’ll have one fully portable copy of Firefox – including all your search history, settings, extensions and bookmarks – ready to roll in your pocket that can run on Windows and OS X.

If you are too lazy to get out of bed and want to use your computer, then a Japanese company has come to your rescue. The company invented a desk, pictured above, called the スクトップ which as you can see allows you to use a huge desktop PC like a PowerMac in bed. Cool invention, you would expect a Japanese company to make one of these. But I don’t think anyone would really buy one of these. You would have to be really lazy to need one of these. I wonder how much they would cost?
International Talk Like A Pirate Day is a parodic holiday invented in 1995 by two Americans, John Baur and Mark Summers, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like pirates. Wikipedia entry:
For example, instead of “hello,” an observer of this holiday would greet his mates with “Ahoy, me hearty!” each September 19. Dave Barry, who writes a nationally-syndicated humor column (currently on a one-year hiatus), picked up the idea in 2002 and promoted the day. The day became “international” that same year when people in Australia learned of the holiday from Barry’s column. By 2003, with the release of such pirate-themed films as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the holiday was established and was celebrated by sea dogs and landlubbers alike the world over.

This seems like a fun thing to do, but you have to get everyone to do it, otherwise everyone will think you’re weird. Now go on, and tell everybody about it.

I saw this long ago, but the fact that it was on the Digg homepage made me look at it again. It is by far the coolest thing anyone has ever done. If you haven’t seen any iPod adverts then you would find it weird for the guy to be dressed in black. The reason the guy is dressed up in black is to act like the silhouette people on the adverts. This is by far the closest anyone has ever come to create a live copy of the iPod advert. I think it is quite cool. See for yourself. The video isn’t good quality, the website says “Sorry for the utterly crappy footage and the white balance jumps. I have a Canon ZR60 as a camcorder.” Nevertheless it is still cool.
Over at Revision 3, where they created the broken, systm and now host diggnation, they have released the newest version of Diggnation. If your not familiar with Diggnation, it is a podcast where they review the top articles submitted to Digg. Digg is a social bookmarking site, where you can keep track of your friends and what articles they have been ‘digging’. It is quite hard to explain Digg, so just visit their website to see.
In the September 15 episode they discuss:
Power supply calculator, Patents on NES, Howto make people look pretty, Teen gets jail time for Paris Hilton hack, First Google site, iTunes video store, Intel’s manufacturing costs, and fish tounge.
There are many ways to download Diggnation:
- high mp3 – 26 MB (BitTorrent Required for Download)
- small mov – 178 MB (BitTorrent Required for Download)
- high mp3 – 26 MB (BitTorrent not needed)
- small mov – 178MB (BitTorrent not needed)
Bittorrent is the best way to download, as it helps Kevin with keeping the bandwidth costs down. But if you can’t use Bittorrent then use the direct links (the latter 2).
