Play Video on your iPod through iPodLinux

Family Guy on a Colour iPod

This is what everyone has been waiting for, video on your iPod. The video plays nearly seamlessly, on colour and black and white iPods, while the sound is a bit more jerky. But knowing the iPodLinux project, they will have that fixed in no-time. Currently you have to install Linux onto your iPod, which may seem scary, to get this to work. Please note that this will void your warranty with Apple, and although there is a very small chance that something could go wrong, if you are unsure about it then don’t do it. The link below is a direct link to a video showing videos played on the black and white iPod, and the colour iPod. The photo above is a screenshot from the video, playing Family Guy.
Because I only have a black and white iPod, I don’t see a real reason for me trying this out, as videos are better in colour, and not really viewable in black and white. But a lot of people still don’t mind doing it, so go ahead.

Wavebird Style Mockup of Revolution Controller made by IGN

Wavebird Style Mockup of Revolution Controller

IGN has created a mockup of what it thinks the normal controller shell adaptor for the Revolution controller will look like. Nintendo has confirmed two controller adaptors, one of which is the analog trigger controller. The other is an adaptor to allow more conservative gamers to play with normal two handed controllers. Nintendo hasn’t showed the design of this adaptor yet so IGN made up this possible design. i think it looks pretty cool, although it is not to scale. The colour scheme is very revolution-ary
Those who like to old style controller could use this instead. It is also good because it keeps the motion sensing function of the new controller, so you get “the best of both worlds“.

Revolution Controller gets a Skin

Revolution Controller Skin

It hasn’t even been 24 hours since the announcement of the Revolution and its controller, yet somebody has already created an image of what they think a skin should look like for the controller. If you like retro and the NES, you will love this controller. I think it looks pretty cool, but I wouldn’t get it myself as I’m not into retro things.
An interesting thing to note is the orientation. It is horizontal and it looks like you can use it like a regular, albeit a bit rectangular, controller. Maybe Nintendo designed it specifically for this purpose. There is also an image of the Retro Revolution Console, with the NES skin.

Video of Xbox 360 Being Built

Screenshots from Video in Quicktime

Xbox 360 News has posted this video that shows people in China making and testing out the new Xbox 360′s getting ready for the lauch date, Dec 2nd (for the UK). “Now this is pretty cool. A video of the assembly line production of the Xbox 360, that’s right, there are people working hard at this very moment putting together your pre-ordered Xbox 360. The video shows a bunch of chinese guys and gals dressed in white wearing silk gloves testing and manufacturing the 360.
I think this is pretty cool, you have to check it out for yourself. I can’t wait until I get my 360…

More Revolution Information

Nintendo Revolution Console

My first thought, it is really white, just like the Xbox 360 and Apple’s iPod’s. Maybe everyone is starting to like white. I think it looks really cool. The main features are going to include 3D pointing, via internal sensors that pick up the directionality of the controller, similarly, it will also be tilt sensitive. Included buttons are the familiar D-Pad, face buttons, and a trigger on the backside of the unit. As seen before, the controller will tap into multifunctionality via separate attachments which plug into an expansion port at its base; the analog stick controller pictured here will also have two trigger buttons. Rumble is of course built-in, and the unit and its attachments are completely wireless. This prompts some concern over how useable the controller will be in FPS games due to a slower response time of a wireless controller, compared with a wired controller.

Revolution Controller is here, really

Revolution Controller

When I first saw this I thought, it has to be a fake. But no, the Nintendo Revolution controller is finally here, in reality. It has two parts, with a thumb controlled analog stick in one hand and a remote control-looking button controller in the other. The analog stick is actually a detachable part of the controller, and other attachments are going to be able to plug into the bottom of the main controller unit. The controller part acts like a mouse as you move it around in 3D space.
It kind of looks weird to me. You would have to get used to it after all the regular controller designs. What do you think?

We have a problem…

It looks like if you access our site from Internet Explorer, and you click on each individual post link, then it will only show up a ‘Leave a Reply’ form. This happens for IE on Windows. There are no problems with Firefox on Windows and Safari, Firefox, Camino or IE on Mac. We are currently working on fixing this.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

UPDATE: During our move to the K2 template we discovered that this isn’t a problem anymore. Enjoy.

Xbox 360 will launch 2nd December in UK

Packaging the Xbox 360

Microsoft has officially announced the launch date for the Xbox 360 in Japan, the US, and the UK. The launch dates are, as follows:

  • North America – Tuesday, November 22, 2005
  • Europe – Friday, December 2, 2005
  • Japan – Saturday, December 10, 2005

Manufacturing of the Xbox 360 has begun, with millions of final units being planned to ship all around the world. This should be “the first time that a game console will be launched in three territories in the same time frame.” I am amazed, but still annoyed that the UK still get everything later than the US. Why can’t they launch it at the same time?

Xbox 360 Manufacturing Date TagThe price for the 360 will be £209.99 and £279.99 for the Core System and Advanced Pack respectively. Instead of £165 (US Price: $299) and £220 (US Price: 399) we get ripped of and have to pay £45 and £60 more! This is really unfair. :(

An image has also seen the light of the internet, which shows the Xbox 360 manufacturing and packaging dates. It’s not absolutely sure whether this is legit or not but it looks real to me. It looks like the assembly was done on 28 June 2005 while the packaging was done 2 months later on 28 August 2005. This seems close to the release date to me, I hope that Microsoft can meet the demands with the manufacturing numbers, as I am not going to stand to wait for weeks to wait for my 360.

Neo Double Gaming – Nintendo DS Copycat

Neo Double Gaming

Yet another copy of a popular gaming console. There are so many of these, and there will probably be another one as well. This looks remarkably like the DS, and I think is a straight copy, with little changes made. Why do people even attempt to make these? More pictures below.

Microsoft Office 12 UI resembles Apple’s Aqua Interface

Word 12 Interface

Now you know how much I love Apple, and how Microsoft seems to copy them a lot (OS X Aqua feaures seem to appear in Vista) here is another moan. Microsoft has revealed their new Office 12 user interface. As you can see from the image above the title bar and the menus have the brushed metal feel to them, if your using a Mac, or have used one before you would know. The pressed down Write button has an Aqua feel to it. Why can’t Microsoft come up with anything original. They are always a step (or maybe a few steps) behind Apple, and to catch up they seem to copy ideas. I think this is unfair. Apple should sue them ;) No, really the people at Microsoft really need to start thinking and generate new ideas rather than re-using Apple’s ideas. Click the link below to see more screenshots of the Office 12. The site maybe a little slow as it has been Slashdotted
PS: Be prepared to be shocked on the UI!
