Recently a friend of mine (James that’s you) criticised the iPod about why it isn’t good on the Soul-Scape Forums. I have a small article below which quotes what he said and my follow up to him (oh yeah I beat him bad!) The grammar isn’t that good as I was aiming for speed and not accuracy but here it goes:

Balazs what is the point of putting video on a device designed for music? The quality rivals the Gameboy Colour.

WTF are you talking about. You haven’t seen one have you. The screen is magnificent and the clarity is amazing. It is better than the screen of your DS. the screen clarity rivals the PSP for god sakes.

Also when you buy an iPod you are paying for the brand, not the technology. iPods are the FCUK of MP3 players, stupendously overpriced but ultimately no different to its competitors. An MP3 player with 4g of memory from ASDA is fine, it holds all your songs with room to spare, and is mildly cheap, its fits in your pocket and works. What the hell is wrong with that? Why spend an other 150 squid on something that ultimately does EXACTLY the same job but with room for 10,000 songs you will never be able to find, let alone find 10,000 songs you like.

HDD - Yes you maybe paying extra but the iPod has lots of better things than your bog standard mp3 player. It may hold all my songs with lots of room to spare, but it is perfect for holding large files when I go over to a friends house to get *cough* copied dvds *cough*. The iPods battery is also great and lasts ages (for me personally).
The iPods menu and navigation is great and is one of the best designed as easiesr to use. Your bog standard mp3 player maybe able to play the songs but will probably not have very good organisation features unlike the iPod. The menu systes on the iPod is intuititive and easy to use.
iTunes with the iPod - One of the best music organisation software on the planet. it again is easy to use and comes with many features so that you can use to find the msuic you want, as well as an itunes music and video store to buy and download millions of songs and over 2000 music videos. iTunes holds 75% of the online music download market. Quote from wikipedia “It has sold more than 600,000,000 songs since it was launched. / Catalog: More than 2,000,000 files; includes audio books; (originally iTMS contained about 200,000 files).”
Design and ergonomics - Design and ergonomics are important regardless of what you think. I wouldn’t want to have a whatever branded mp3 player if it buldges out of my pocket as it will probably cause my leg to hurt after a few hours. the iPod is sleek and comfortable in your hand and pocket so it feels comfortable to use and you wont think ” god I have to change songs, ugh its so uncomfortable”
Accessories - there won’t be many (or none at all) accessories for whatever branded mp3 players as there is for the ipod. There are tons of accessories such as a fm tuners, car chargers, loads of cases, docks, cables etc.You may think you won’t need it but you won’t be saying that in the car when your battery dies and you have nothing to listen to for that 4 hour journey.
Interface - The click wheel is simple to use, requires no training and can be done by a baby or someone with no expertise in the area. The click wheel is comfrtable to use. This is also very important as, I for one, wouldn’t use an mp3 player if the controls were crap. EG if they were hard to press, in weird areas or were too small.

These are just some of the great things about the iPod. If it weren’t good as you say then why would the sales for the ipod have gone through the roof since last nov?? yes the ipod is expensive but it is definitely worth the money. just search around on google if you still don’t believe me. iPod curently holds around 80% of the digital music player market in the USA Does that still not make it clear for you??? I think it was Engadget who said the iPod was hands down the best music player on the market and (i quote) “there are no iPod killers out in the market today“
