Stealing lunch from Google
Published November 5th, 2005 in Internet, Random Stuff, Technology
I didn’t know that Google offered free lunch for all its employees, and it’s not crap food either. “It’s a lavish affair, with many different types of high quality food, drinks, desert, etc.” It sounds a lot better than the industrial slop they feed us at school (it isn’t that bad, really). People have been finding this out and sneaking into Google’s canteen to steal food. If you go through the main entrance you have to get past security, be tagged and have someone follow you around. But if you can slip past parking security than you can wander into the canteen where they don’t ask you for any ID. Cool.
Like much on TechCrunch, this is pure rumor. But I’ve heard from multiple independent sources that non-Google employees are making a game out of getting onto the Google campus, without an escort, and eating a free lunch, often taking a second lunch “to-go” for dinner. These people are keeping score to see who can eat the most free, unescorted lunches at Google. And specifically, my understanding is that many or all of these people are Yahoo employees. Yahoo HQ is right down the freeway, a very short drive away.
Interesting. They should make all Yahoo employees pay a huge fine because they work for Yahoo ;). I would love to work at Google and not have to pay for food. I’m sure most people would. This is just another step Google is taking to take over the world…
