This is a cool mod done to the hard drive of a computer.
Last year I decided to put a window in a hard drive, and it got a lot of attention. Certainly the questions that were asked the most were “Why?” “How?” and “Does it still work?”
The last question was the easiest. It works fine. The first question was more difficult. I did this mod largely to refute the commonly held perception that it could not be done. (Sort of a Mt. Everest thing, I suppose.) Everyone knows that getting little speck of dust inside can ruin a hard drive [...]
Even though it will void your warranty it still looks pretty cool, mostly when the drive is in action and you can see the head moving over the platter. I couldn’t imagine how hard it would be to keep everything so clean so that not even a speck of dust enters the drive.
