Nintendo DS Lite Announced

Looks like the rumour turned out to be true. And I am glad! I swear I may just buy one if the price is a little bit cheaper than it is right now as I already have a PSP and a 360. Not much information yet but here is what was announced.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata today announced Nintendo DS Lite, a slimmer version of the best-selling Nintendo DS™. Also featuring brighter screens, Nintendo DS Lite will launch in Japan in March. Nintendo DS Lite will be less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter.
Nintendo DS has enjoyed extremely strong sales in Japan and around the world, selling more than 14.4 million units worldwide. The Japanese sell-through of the existing Nintendo DS hardware exceeded 5 million within 13 months, which made Nintendo DS the fastest-selling video game system there.
Nintendo will announce more information about the availability of Nintendo DS Lite in North America and other territories in the future.

[Thanks Joystiq for the speech]

The Nintendo DS Lite is smaller and lighter than the DS. It is 1/3rd smaller and 20-percent of the weight of the original DS. It will apparently be released on March 2nd for ¥16,800 (~£74.32). I sthink we (the UK) will still get the short end of the stick and have to wait longer than everyone else and pay more. It really is unfair. “It’s important to remember, however, that the DS Lite we see here may not be the device that you actually buy, being that these are still considered to be design mock-ups.” They still look good though, but I hoped that it would be at least a little bit different than the original DS.
