PSP officially getting email and GPS?

From the looks of things the PSP is getting GPS and an email client. Images taken from a leaked version of the March 2006 issue of PlayStation Magazine show that the PSP will be getting an external add-on GPS and an email client called ‘Sony Mail’. The Sony Mail will be distributed as a part of a new update which will most likely include fixes to stop people running homebrew apps on them. This is why Sony added a browser and a podcasting client to the updates, so that people will have a reason to upgreade, otherwise they would still remain on 1.51 running all sorts of old school games. The mail client will use a unique number assigned to each PSP to make setting up as simple as possible and avoid “a potentially confusing server setup“. The GPS will use the USB 2.0 port of the PSP to connect and Sony will also have UMD based maps and software. I didn’t think they would release it online so we could put it on a memory stick. We have to shell out cash for the damn proprietary UMD’s. I have a PSP and it really annoys me that I can’t watch good quality films from a memory stick and I have to buy the UMD movies. Though I do have to say I did buy SWAT for UMD because I love that film, the quality is amazing! Leave it to Sony to do things like this.
