1GB iPod nano announced

The online Apple Store went down for a while this afternoon. And now we know why. Apple has reduced the price of the 512MB and 1GB Shuffles and has introudced a 1GB iPod nano (costing merely £40 more than the 1GB shuffle). The 512MB iPod Shuffle is now £49, and the 1GB is £69. Prices for the nanos have stayed the same.
I thought that Apple would eliminate the 1GB shuffle and just have the nano to cross bridges between the low end shuffle. Maybe that is what they are doing, and now they are getting rid of left over stock?
