I have been receiving way too much spam on this blog and I am getting floods and floods of emails from the blog telling me there is a comment in moderation (because I set it to moderate a comment if it has more than 3 links). I am going to disable this, but Akismet has not blocked it all, and so I am taking action. Any spam comments received will get their IP permanently blocked from the blog. However, if your ISP uses dynamic IP’s and you happen to receive one of the blocked IP’s then you can shoot me an email (a link is provided on the page you get when it shows your IP is blocked).
Sorry for having to do this but it is such a pain, I have had nearly 5000 spam attempts to the blog (most of which have been blocked by Akismet, others I have had to do manually).

I’ve been getting this too the past few weeks: a real sudden increase. I’m just on WP, but over at Dewayne’s blog (shadow dot wordpress dot com) I’m reading exactly the same. I see you’re hosting at a private server but have the same prob.
Is there some global spam wave going on or something?
Btw, I’d read about your announced blog makeover, but this is truly terrific. Hats off, it looks really nice!

I do think that there is some global spam war, but I think the spammers are targeting wordpress a lot, which is why we’ve been both getting a lot of spam though. It is so annoying and frustrating to deal with!

You could use: akismet.com, really really good anti-spam for wordpress
Also, use http://www.externaltest.com to keep your blog watched, have alerts, and reports about time responses…

I already use Akismet but sometimes it doesn’t block everything which can be quite annoying. Thanks for the link.
