Site will go down…

…for some upgrades and maintenance. The site will go down for around 48 hours. It shouldn’t take that long, and I’m not exactly sure when, but hopefully we can be up and running by Monday. See you then!

UPDATE: We’re back up now and working. Hope it didn’t cause much inconvenience.

We’re a part of the Bluefish Network!

I thought it was time to make the blog a bit more ‘friendly’ and to widen my readers. Well, over at the bluefish network they “wanted to create a place for non-mainstream, niche web site and blog owners to network with and link to one another, whilst still maintaining their individuality.” So I thought it was a good opportunity, and they liked my blog so I am now an official member of the bluefish network! Yay!!

Sorry for the lack of posts

Sorry that I only made one post yesterday, but my new Dell LCD arrived and I spent some time setting it up and making everything perfect. The monitor is the Dell 1704FPT 17″. My previous monitor was a 15″ and I am just loving that extra screen space. It is really beneficial. I will post some pictures to my Flickr account so keep an eye on it. I have a lot of posts to do today so watch out.

No posts today

Me and my family are going for a day trip to France to get some food so there will be no posts as we are getting back very late. But expect lots of posts tomorrow to make up for today!

New Blog feature: Podcasting

I was looking at plugins for WordPress when I cam across the Talkr Podcast plugin. It enables you to have automated MP3′s generated from your posts. I thought this was quite a cool feature so I configured the plugin for the blog. Now at the end of every post you will see a link to the MP3 file for that post. You can also get the RSS feed here. I liked the idea of this feature so I thought I might as well add it. The automated voice doesn’t sound too bada actually, I thought it would sound a lot worse.
On a seperate note I have added stars next to posts that I think are the most interesting.

Blog updates and fixes

Right, I have started some modification of the blog to make it better. It will take me a while and you can see the progress at the top of the main page. I have quite a bit of work to do and most of the problems are with Internet Explorer. Yes, that horrid browser that lacks lots of CSS capabilities. I’m not much of a web designer or coder, so if I eventually give up because it is too hard (it really is hard) then my last hope will be asking you to switch to Firefox. I will try to fix as much as possible, but you have to understand all the problems it is causing me, especially how the site doesn’t look to good in IE. Please, please switch, not just for the site but for your safety (so you don’t get affected by the mountains of exploits there are for IE). I have outlined a rough to do list of what needs to be done.

  • tick.gif Done – Fix Flickr images on Archives page as it is displaying a huge gap. IE, Firefox and Safari
  • tick.gif Done - Fix Flickr heading on IE as it is displaying an incorrect size, too big. IE Only
  • tick.gif Done – Convert PNG images to GIF because IE doesn’t support PNG transparency. IE Only
  • tick.gif Done – Fix sidebar and posts as they are misaligned. IE Only

This is the list so far, I will try and iron out as many as possible. But Get Firefox anyway!

Hello from 2006

After celebration and some drinking I thought I should make a quick post from 2006 to those in America and beyond who are still in 2005. This will be the best year ever, so I hope to see you here soon…

Once again, have a happy and prosperous 2006!

Happy New Year (Last post for 2005)

As my last post for 2005: Happy New Year to you all!

I hope you all had a good year, and will have a great 2006. As for me I have a lot of exams to look forward to :( in July and I will have to do a lot of studying. Apart from that it should be the best year yet!

Upgraded to WordPress 2.0

With the latest version of WordPress arriving today, I took it upon myself to upgrade the mini Blog to WP2.0. After battling some errors it works, well sort of. I have some problems:

  • Good Fixed – On the archives page the live archives doesn’t work. The text is all capitals, too big and overlaps each other. See for yourself. This appears to be an incompatibility with the WordPress theme I use (K2) and WordPress 2.0 itself. The creator, Michael Heilemann, is working on an update which should be out soon.
  • Good Fixed - Some code in posts and/or pages doesn’t seem to show up, and when it works and I edit the post/page the code disappears. This isn’t too much of an issue but it is quite annoying.
  • Good Fixed – For some reason WP glitched up, where the time would be shown as if I had changed the time zone, when it remained at GMT. This meant that posts were either not showing up or had the wrong timestamp.

Other than that I like WP2 and I think it has been a great improvement. Good work guys!

My Xbox 360 and the setup

After playing myself silly hours on end I took some photos to share with you. The photo above shows the 360 with the faceplate and the wireless controller. Looks cool, eh? Click on for some more photos or click here to see the entire photoset on Flickr. I’ll be posting some of the good and bad points of the 360 soon. Check back later.
