Pictures of Pennies

This is a really random thing that I found which contains lots of pictures of pennies. Now these are no normal pennies, these are creations that require lots of patience. An amazing feat, literally. It is really cool what they managed to do and there are some really cool pictures. These people had a lot of free time on their hands!

Cool Foam Experiment

This is a really cool Google Video I found on digg showing a simple experiment where some liquid is poured into a glass tube with some other liquid inside. This then foams up lots to make a huge foam ‘marshmallow’. Check out the comments on the digg article, as there are some posts there which sort of explain how this works, etc.

How to detect fake US money

The public has a role in maintaining the integrity of our currency. You can help guard against the threat from counterfeiters by becoming more familiar with United States currency.
Look at the money you receive. Compare a suspect note with a genuine note of the same denomination and series, paying attention to the quality of printing and paper characteristics. Look for differences, not similarities.

The article basically tells you: ‘If it’s fuzzy or miss-aligned then it’s fake’

Buy and iPod and get some meat instead!

Rachel Cambra, a mom and an employee of that Wal-Mart store, gave her son a Christmas gift which she believed to be a Video iPod she had put on layaway. But when the big moment arrived on Christmas morning and the present was ripped open, there was no iPod to be found. Just a wrapped-up piece of meat. Yes, I said meat. Not sure what kind of meat, but the fact that it was wrapped made it a little more palatable. Wal-Mart promises to replace the iPod as soon as possible and Apple doesn’t seem to have a comment. [Gizmodo]

Update #2: We have an email from someone who claims to be an insider at the Wal-mart Corp. Office in Hawaii, here is what she says:
As for your iMeat story-looks like Walmart is actually at fault. I’m an investigator for Walmart’s Corp. Office in Honolulu (we handle internal theft, shipment shortages, barcode fraud etc). Truth is, there was 2 more units found to have “wrapped meat” in them and actually suspect an ex-employee of the tampering. The 2 other units were purchased by employees as Christmas gifts too. Ms. Cambra should be getting her replacement within the week. [Gizmodo]

Man unaware that he had been shot

A man who woke up and found his head bleeding, drove to work and left a note for his boss before going to the hospital to find he had a bullet lodged in his brain, authorities said.
When Glen Thomas Betterley, 53, noticed the blood Thursday morning he asked his girlfriend if she had struck him. Emma Lorene Larsen, 65, said no.
Betterley went to Halifax Medical Center emergency room where he learned he had been shot in the forehead.
While Betterley was being treated, police called Larsen and heard a single gunshot. When investigators arrived at the home, they found Larsen dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot to the head. [USA Today]

This is really weird. How could he not feel or hear that he had been shot? How deep was he sleeping? And then there is the story of his girlfriend who comitted suicide! Interesting to see what kind of strange things go on in the world.

BBC’s list of 100 things we didn’t know this time last year

The BBC has released an interesting list of things that we learnt (as humans) over the year that we didn’t know. These are my personal favourites:

3. While it’s an offence to drop litter on the pavement, it’s not an offence to throw it over someone’s garden wall. [details]

6. WD-40 dissolves cocaine – it has been used by a pub landlord to prevent drug-taking in his pub’s toilets.

11. One in 10 Europeans is allegedly conceived in an Ikea bed. [details]

23. In America it’s possible to subpoena a dog. [details]

It really has a lot of funny, unusual and interesting facts. Definitely a worthwhile read.

Engineer proves speed camera error in court

Engineer Bryn Carlyon was issued a TICKET by a traffic speed camera in Cardiff, UK. But he used multiple timed snaps by the camera, plus a little basic math, to PROVE IN COURT that he could not have been traveling at the speed on his citation. The case was dropped “due to insufficient evidence” and he received an apology from the Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, but Carlyn won’t drop it himself. He’s working to overturn the decision for the benefit of mankind: “I need the verdict to say that this was not dropped through lack of evidence — it was dropped because it was a false prosecution,” he told a local reporter. Photo tour of VW manufacturing factory

WV Dresden

This site takes you on a photo tour of the factory where VW builds the Phaeton in Dresden, Germany. Has lots of detailed photos and annotations. Quite cool, look like a really clean place. Apparently the public can go on guided and unguided tours, just find the place. The finished cars look pretty damn nice!
