Engadget receives their Xbox 360

Box opened and 360 removed

I really don’t get how everyone manages to get their hands on a 360 before launch. It is really annoying me, and I won’t get mine until Christmas (thanks Santa ;) !) Engadget has lots of photos of them opening the box of the 360 and these are high quality pictures unlike that video of the 360′s box being opened. Photos include the shipping box, retail box, cables and other good stuff. I’ll leave you to drool on the pictures.
One thing to note is that after seeing the ‘box with the hard drive on it, it makes it seem a bit weird to me. The console and the controller is white and the hard drive is a grey colour that makes it stand out and seem unnatural, well to me anyway.

Berlin artists use parasitic Mac Mini in the Subway

Image taken from videoclip

A group of artists in Berlin have released a movie of a suction cup equipped suitcase which contains a Mac mini, a digital projector, and a battery power supply. They stuck the suitcase on the side of the subway and projected images in the subway tunnels as the train was moving. Are they crazy? Perhaps.

This seems very weird but it would also be cool to see. You can download the video here (QuickTime .mov – 34.9 MB)

Xbox 360 lounge opened in Tokyo

Xbox 360 Lounge

The ‘Xbox 360 Lounge‘ launched yesterday in Tokyo (interestingly it only made it to the news today) was announced at a small press event.

The Xbox 360 Lounge itself features 256 square meters of event space, a 200-inch screen, an “Xbox 360 Touch & Try Corner,” a faceplate design display area, and even a small shop where you can pick up various Xbox 360 branded items. The lounge area offers a number of Xbox 360 related foodstuffs such as what you see in the image, as well as free WiFi access. The Xbox 360 is set for a December 10th launch in Japan; let’s hope this lounge brings some much-needed attention to Xbox line over there. Get to the lounge quickly, though, because it will be closing forever on January 15th of next year.

This sounds cool, but why would Microsoft go to all the trouble of making it and then close it down after just over two months of service. I think they should keep it running, as it will be not only popular with a lot of people, but it will make Microsoft money (not that they don’t have lots and lots of it). It would be cool to see inside it as see that 200 inch screen. The free WiFi sounds good to me and the food does as well (as long as Bill Gates doesn’t make it). I’m guessing that Microsoft launched it in Japan and not the US because they are trying to build up hype and excitement there, as the Xbox isn’t very popular in Japan. This would be over-run with people if it were to have been made in the US.

Xbox 360 Demo units appear at Wal-Mart

Person Holding an Xbox 360 controller

It looks like that in some Wal-Marts across the US (one confirmed in Albuquerque, NM) Xbox 360 demo units have begun showing up. These have playable titles in them including Kameo, Call of Duty 2, and King Kong. It was noticed that there is a separate external memory card slot for bonus content downloading. So far it looks quite promising from what I’ve heard, i can’t wait till this gets around in the UK. Joystiq have received comments from people who have been able to play on these units. Here is a brief overview.

The Good:
- Overall, the demos were enjoyable and one Joystiq reader even managed to beat the Call of Duty 2 demo.
- The power adapter isn’t as big as everyone thought, thank god!

The Bad:
- The ergonomics of the oddly-angled display may result in neck sprains.
- Bugs: collision detection issues were apparent in some of the games
- Mini boss battles with 6-year-olds who wouldn’t let go of the controllers. :)

The iPod Silhouette Ad with Eminem

iPod Ad with Eminem Screenshit

Steve Jobs showed off their latest iPod ‘silhouette’ advert at the ‘Special Event’ in San Jose. I say ‘silhouette’ because it is multi coloured and Eminem has shades so you can make out who he, otherwise you would think that the person is your average John Doe. Although I don’t like Eminem or his music I like the ad. Apple have gone to a length to make this ad considering how earlier last year Eminem sued Apple for using his music in an Ad without asking him. There have been reports from sites including The Unofficial Apple Weblog that Apple have taken the Ad from their website and it won’t be airing on the TV but I found it on Apple’s website and have download it. Just in case it disappears I have a link below to a smaller version.

US digital switch in 2009

US TV stations say they are ready for the big switch over from analogue to digital TV’s in 2009. The TV stations said that they would abide by the 2009 deadline to completely shut off the analogue signals. So if you live in the US, then you should be ready, with digital TV’s getting cheaper and cheaper.

5 Reasons why you shouldn’t buy a Plasma TV

Plasma TV

This is an interesting article I found on Digg.com. It goes through each in-depth, and I think it is a worthy article. It is very helpful for you to see the downsides of a Plasma TV. Although they may seem great and fantastic, they do have their problems. And with the prices of Plasma TV’s decreasing, more and more people want to buy one. I, personally, prefer LCD TV’s as their pixels are much smaller which means the images are clearer. LCD’s also have better contrast ratios.
